This week’s maths topic is money. Today we looked at the different coins, sorted them and described them using language such as bronze, silver, gold, round, bigger, smaller. We are going to be using coins to pay for things throughout the week. You could set up a shop at home using toys or food and put price labels, then use coins to pay for them.

Following our work on 2d shapes, this week the children have printed their own shape patterns using paint. They named and described the shapes they had used in their repeating pattern.

On Monday we used the laptops to create our own firework music. We used a program called ‘Big Bus’ and chose different instruments to compose a piece of music and add it to a firework display.

Potion Making

Yesterday we read the story ‘Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs’. We watched a clip of the evil queen making a potion and then made our own in our ‘Potion Den’ and in our outdoor area. We have talked about all of the different things we could put in a potion and what types of potions we could make. The children have had some fantastic ideas! We are going to be writing our own recipes later in the week too!

Today we created a ‘Witches Brew’. We used vinager, washing up liquid, food colouring, and bicarbonate of soda. We predicted what might happen and got very excited when the potion started to ‘fizz’, ‘bubble’, ‘explode’ and ‘trickle’ over the top of the potion jar!

‘Today’s the day the teddy bears had their picnic.’

All of the children’s hard work payed off…we have some very lucky teddies!

What a great end to our ‘Do you want to be friends?’ topic!

We also used our teddies to show what a good friends look like, talking about all of the things we have learnt about friends such as sharing, laughing and having fun together, helping each other, making each other smile when they are sad. The children set up their own scenarios and used iPads to take photographs of their work.

The children have been so busy preparing for our Teddy Bear’s Picnic tomorrow. We started by making a list of all of the things we needed to do. We made invitations for all of our bears. This week we have wrote shopping lists for what food we need, made decorations, decorated picnic blankets, made picnic bags and hats, baked teddy biscuits and made our own sandwiches. I hope the teddies are as excited as we are for the big day tomorrow!

Build A Bear

We have had a great morning at Build a Bear. The children were very excited to travel on the big, yellow bus. When we got there we chose our class bear and all helped to stuff him. The children then all held a special heart, made a wish and that was also then stuffed inside our bear. We chose some clothes and voted on a name for him. We played some games and talked about other special bears.

Everyone meet…..Peter! He will be coming home for visits very soon, please take good care of him and give him lots of love.
